PETER ADAMS, Father of Robert ??? by Linda Sparks Starr APR 1996 Up front -- this connection is very tentative, but "my gut" tells me it just might be correct. The biggest problem is no child named "Peter" anywhere in the ADAMS and CLARK / MOORMAN lines which intermarried with daughters of Robert and Mourning. A simple, but possibly overdone explanation is, "their son, Peter, died before old enough to generate records." And since most, if not all, of their children are identified by their wills, this possibility has to be considered. The reason I'm looking so closely at Peter as Robert's father, is: "he's in the right place at the right time" and "his wife's name is Anne." from Nugent's Cavaliers & Pioneers ... vol. I, page 282: Patent Book 5 Peter ADAMS ... 594 1/2 acres in New Kent Co. 18 MAR 1662, page 307, NW side main branch Blackwater Creek including Thomas Maskes 100 acres making 594 1/2 beginning in said branch, thence up Waynoke Swamp, NW by North to hickory dividng this from Henry Pateman's land ... out of patent of 1,000 ares granted 20 JAN 1657. Rent Roll 1704: Anne ADAMS 150 acres Could this be the same Peter Adams? From page 3, Survey Report No. 739 which I found in "00660" thru the on-line VA Library Colonial Records, taken from ff.64,65: Proclamation of Sir William Berkeley, Governor of VA 10 FEB 1676/7. Pardon to all followers of Bacon provided they ask within the next twenty days their justices of the peace and take before him the oath of obedience of 3 James I... the pardon does not include property of Bacon, Will. Hunt senior and Edmund Chees- man, all deceased, nor ... who were executed. Exempt from this pardon are also ... Peter Adams who have to be brought before a court. None of the following will be pardoned: ..." Now to "why" I think this might be Robert's father: refer to the last page of my FEB 1994 update Robert ADAMS and Mourning? -- I said "Anna the younger" may be an important clue -- because they named two daughters Ann / Anna. I even asked if the above reference to Anne Adams of James City Co. 1704 could be his mother? I found all this other information AFTER writing that. Robert and Mourning had only two known sons -- Robert and JAMES. Could both be named for the ADAMS side of the family? At this point in time, this is PURE SPECULATION on my part, but what do you all think?
