Enoch B. Benson To all to whom these presents Shall come I, Enoch

To B. Benson Sheriff of Pendleton district and State

Col. George Rankin aforesaid Stand Greeting. Whereas by Virtue of a

writ of fiera facias issued out of the court of common pleas held for the district of Pendleton tested the fourth monday of March in the Year of our Lord, one thousand eight hundred, and twenty two at the Suit of Wm Owens to me directed commanding me that of the goods and chattles lands and tenements of Wm M. Rankin & John A. Johnson to levy the Sum of thirty nine Dollars Six Dollars & 44 cents damages and costs I have Seized and taken of the lands and tenements of the Said William M. Rankin all that certain piece parcel and tract of Land containing three hundred and eighty four acres more or less Situate and being in the district of Pendleton and State of South Carolina on the twenty three mile creek bounded on the north by Wm McMurray and South by Benjamin Mulligin South & South west by George Rankin, D. K. Hambleton & Thos Hambleton and on the East by James McKinny – all the right title and interest that the above Wm M. Rankin have in and to the said described tract of land which appears to be one third part the Said undivided third part having been willed to the Said Wm M. Rankin by his father in remainder after the death of Mrs. Lettices Rankin the mother of the Said Wm M. Rankin. And Whereas the said premises with their appurtenances Since the Seizure by me made by Virtue of the Said writ of fiera facias before mentioned have been exposed to Sale at Public Vendue and purchased by Col. George Rankin of the district of Pendleton & State aforesaid for the Sum of twenty Dollars being the highest Sum that was bidden therefor Now know ye that I Enoch B. Benson Sheriff aforesaid by virtue of the said writ of fiera facias aforesaid to me directed and delivered as aforesaid and by virtue of the statute in such case made and provided and for me in consideration of the Said Sum of twenty Dollars to me in hand paid or secured to be paid by the said George Rankin the receipt and payment whereof I do hereby

567 I do hereby acknowledge have granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do grant bargain and Sell unto the said George Rankin his heirs and assigns forever the said tract piece and parcel of and with its appurtenances and all the estate right title and Interest which the said William M. Rankin of right had of in and to the Same To have and to hold the Said piece parcel and tract of land with the appurtenances unto the Said George Rankin his heirs and assigns forever as full and absolutely as I the Said Enoch B. Benson Sheriff as aforesaid might could or ought to grant bargain and Sell the Same by Virtue of the Statute aforesaid and the Said writ of fiera facias or otherwise. In Witness whereof I the Said Enoch B. Benson Sheriff as aforesaid have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the thirtieth day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two.

Justices of the quorum Personally came and appeared Daniel R. Towers who being duly sworn upon his oath deposeth and saith that he was present and did see Enoch B. Benson Esquire Sheriff of Pendleton District Seal Sign and execute the within instrument of writing for the use intents and purposes therein Set forth and expressed and that Thomas F. Brown was with himself a Subscribing witness to the due execution of the Same.
